We rang at St Nicholas (1 bell, 22cwt in E) where Alban will be ruing the day that he hadn't been paying attention when our organiser for the afternoon Fr David Cawley had said 'do not touch this when the Great Bell is being rung...' Insurance claims and counter claims will be flying around the Midlands for the next few years I think, and all because Alban touched a nice purple fluffy thing at the back of the choir stall when he wasn't supposed to, resulting in something upstairs with the Great one getting bent - we all had to delay our pulling too whilst Fr David had to go and clear the blockage!!!
We then went across to All Saints (1 bell, 2cwt in G sharp) and all had a quick ring and then met up with all the other shoppers and drinkers at St Mary de Castro (8, 15-3-3 in E). We rang two touches here and what excellent touches they were... Master Game conducted one of 8 spliced (very nicely struck) and Master Hayward then conducted a very pleasant 'musical' touch of Stedman... It should be noted though that our treble ringer for the Stedman nearly brought the house/tower down by suggesting to the tenor ringer that he was not ringing his bell in the correct place, and then suggesting how this could be corrected!! For those that were sitting out between the pair of them, it was very hard to control our amusement for some time...

After the ringing, a fond farewell was given to the new 'love-birds' who were retiring for a romantic meal for two, with the threat from the rest of the party that they would find them later..!!! And so a quick freshening up and then a return visit to the 'Rainbow & Dove' for some more evening’s entertainment... This seemed to be the high point of the weekend!!!
What can you not do in a Gay bar in Leicester...!?! We chatted via 'Bluetooth' to mystery people - some of which are still persons unknown! We had 'Hinge & Brackett' impersonations, 'toupee' and other even worse jokes, 5 part harmony's to Human League hits (or basically anything that came on the speakers), the entrance of the Queen of Sheba (well how else can the white see-through top and yellow belt with newly bought jeans be described??) and to top it all we had our photo's taken for the local magazine (that will now need to be sourced to discovered how we did look that night!!).
And then of course we have the 'luck of Dickon'!! Orders two pints and a couple of other drinks, and finds that three pints have been poured... oops sorry for the mistake and gets given the extra pint FOC anyway!!! Back at the table, our Northern contingent decides that this should be drunk in true style and the pint disappears in around 6 seconds - without a drop spilt!!! This extra pint kicked in rather too quickly after a few minutes and I trust he felt better in the morning??
