On Friday 15 October 2004 a number of lads went north in search of a land of bagpipes, haggis, Irn Bru, Kilts and Tartan.
Arriving by train, 'plane, and car, the gentlemen were bell ringers, the destination Edinburgh, and with so many fit tartan-clad Scotsman to explore, the "gentlemen of a certain persuasion" didn't need much persuading. A certain Keith Game was frisked at Gatwick much to his delight. Vast quantities of an alternative moisturiser were found but one can only speculate about which ring, set off the metal detector.
The eagerly anticipated Friends of Dorothy Society's Excursion to Scotland (McFODS) had begun.
McFODS kicked off on Friday afternoon with a peal attempt at St Cuthbert Edinburgh. 5041 of Stedman Caters was successfully rung in 3 hours 8 minutes. Michael Harrison travelled from Washington DC to take part and it was his first peal in this method.

Aptly conducted by Matt at the Cathedral was a quarter-peal: 1260 of Grandsire Triples. Three locals: the Ringing Master and Tower Secretary of the Cathedral as well as a local student were brave enough to take part. They didn't, strictly speaking, meet the FODS exacting membership criteria, but if they were up for it, the FODS weren't going to stop them!
