What fun these mortals have!

The weekend began with members gathering over the course of a Friday evening to ring at Canterbury, St Stephen's, for general ringing and a planned quarter peal, and to join the local practice at St Dunstan's. But, the stories of arrival were diverse.

Those who travelled furthest had the most adventures to relate. Michael R Harrison (Mike) arrived early from Washington and took a ringing side trip to Dover, arriving at St. Stephen's in time to conduct the evening's ringing.

Paul Williams discovered a Chunnel ticket that was about to expire and called Jim Snyder with an invitation to Friday luncheon in France. (LUNCH?!) On arrival in France, it seemed something else was needed to justify the trip, so a case of wine and some French cheeses also made the return trip, about which more later.

Paul and Jim made the return just in time to ring the last touch before the quarter peal began. Those who were not in the quarter drove in to St. Dunstan's, where the four people at the local practice welcomed us to round out their band. After some spirited ringing, we moved to the West Bar, only to be surprised that the ringers from the quarter had disbanded and were already a round ahead of us! Did that quarter peal go so badly, or were the boys just eager to beat us to the bar?

After the FODS finished at the West Bar, and after dinner in several locations, a group of those staying at the Holiday Inn Express gathered in the lobby bar and began a discussion which migrated to subjects related to nature's laws and very long peal attempts. You can imagine the direction of this talk when the FODS Urologist joined in.
