FODS Get Sent to Coventry, 4-6 March 2005
Did Coventry really know what had hit it when 30 people of "that" persuasion descended on the birthplace of the British Motor Industry, the home of Britain's most loved building and location of what has to be the most dangerous road junctions in the civilised world?
Many of us started as we meant to go on, checking into the Ibis hotel and checking out our en-suite rooms. This served to emphasise the Ibis slogan, and many were sure they would never want to stay anywhere else ... ever again! A forward party of peal band, quarter band and mascot made their way to Lloyds for lunch and, "start as we mean to go on" liquid refreshment. Sadly lacking in the Shropshire Lad enjoyed by many last year, we plumped for some Pride. Said mascot, my cousin, continued the FODS tradition by being the "token straight guy" on the tour. The group diminished by the departure of the enthusiastic peal band members and those also taking ropes, then visibly swelled with the arrival of Daniel and Paul. After more drinks, several quarter compositions being written on a napkin and a change of conductor for the quarter, the band moved off to Stoneleigh to score an excellent quarter of Bob minor, a second quarter for Daniel and ably conducted by Ashley. Sadly the peal of spliced major at Kingsbury was lost.

So, back to the Ibis for some application of faces and some minor tarting up before the town was well and truly hit and painted a rather nice shade of lilac. The group split in two with some of the young at heart drifting off to Rainbows, while the more sedate of us made our way to Wetherspoons for some real ale ... where many more members joined us for pleasure in pint glasses before moving on to the Whitefriars for more real ale before retiring for bed. We can only imagine the fun and frivolity taking place at Rainbows but I believe a late night was enjoyed by most - some more than others!
Saturday morning started promptly with members drifting down for breakfast and wondering on mass to the station to meet additional members and the big gay bus to take us on a magical mystery tour - well, I forgot to take my list of towers so it was a mystery to me!
